Denon DVD-3800BDCI Blu-ray Disc DVD/CD Player
Denon DVD-3800BDCI Blu-ray Disc Player — a little steep, amazing quality
You’ve been sniffing out Blu-ray players for a while now, but aren’t sure which to buy. This Denon might seem like a stretch (the list price coming in at a whopping $1,999) when there are other Blu-ray players on the market for much less, but it definitely packs a punch.
Pros:
The thing about this baby is that it’s got the 10-bit Realta HQV video processor, so it can play both DVDs and Blu-ray discs (BDs) beautifully; thus, you can say goodbye to your old DVD player and only deal with one piece of equipment. Also, the color on both DVDs and BDs is incredible due to the HDMI v1.3a output. And specific to this brand, the Denon D.D.S.C.-HD Technology takes surround sound to a whole new level.
Cons:
Like I said before, $1,999. That’s a lot, but fortunately a simple internet search can bring up several electronics outlets offering discounts — though you’re still probably not going to find a price below $500. For such a cost, the fact that there’s only a 1-year warranty might seem cheap, especially when other models (for example, the Marantz BD8002 — very comparable) come with 3-year warranties.
In sum: If you’ve got the cash, it’s worth it, though check into extended warranties.
